port elizabeth - a soul family braai
There are special souls one gets the privilege to meet in life, we have discovered quite a collection of bright lights onboard the ship. Honestly, the most wonderful, interesting, inspiring, and authentic humans on this adventure are the stunning ones who take care of us!
Among them is a beautiful couple who have invited us to their family home when we land in Port Elizabeth. An invitation to our first braai. ( a South African BBQ ) Of course we accept - what a privilege!
With flowers and chocolates in hand, we journey to a small town called Despatch. A kind man with knowing eyes warmly welcomes us at the gate. He is shadowed by an adorable white dog made of pure affection. His beautiful wife invites us across the threshold of their home with big hugs. This feels wonderfully familiar like we have returned from a long voyage. Conversation is picked up as if it never stopped.
The fire for the braai is lit and we circle a friendly table with nibbles and drinks. Binky, a black pup with the face of a baby seal wiggles between human and table legs. He generously gives and accepts love, transmuting energy into joy just by being there.
More friends arrive adding to the warmth of the night and we share stories from across time as our meal is slow-cooked over the smoldering fire. We speak of portals, alephs, and magic. All souls present are well-versed in this language. The evening stretches and is suspended in this beautiful moment.
After being well-fed on every level, the night winds down, and we are kindly delivered back to port.
Trevor returns to the ship and I head out with a bright spark of a soul. This wonderful spirit intrigues me, I know her from across time. During this evening’s conversation, we discover we share a birthday, this revelation makes so much sense.
Tonight, I have the privilege of getting out with crew at a local South African hip-hop club. This club emanates joy and I have so much to learn as I watch all styles of dance play out before me. Everyone looks beautiful and moves like no one is watching.
At 2 AM my pillow calls and this bright spark makes sure I get back safe, we walk hand-in-hand towards the ship.
What a visit this has been, Trevor and I have added to our family!
Thank you 💖
