slow indulgence
Today is a day off. No need to power through another onshore excursion as we have four months to go and pace is needed.
The ship empties and it feels as though we are the only guests aboard. After a frisky morning, our cabin curtains are opened to once again reveal full sun and warmth. A soak in the spa on the outdoor pool deck sounds divine! With coffee in hand and muffins squirreled away in the pockets of our coats, we head up.
What a treat, stunning weather, and a view of Osaka harbor from here is heaven. This moment feels like a dream, one I am already used to.
Post-soak mimosas are enjoyed over planning the week ahead. Very important decisions such as, which shore excursions are really worth it, where to have dinner tonight, and most important of all, booking time in OTVIM. This is the spa aboard Silversea where champagne is served in the stead of cucumber water and chocolate over celery sticks.
After all important decisions are made I head to reception to see if there are any options for tattooed humans who wish to enjoy the hot springs of Beppu. The girl at the desk informs me she tried as she shows me her inked arms, it’s a hard no from shore. With this confirmation I let the question fall.
A lengthy cup of tea and the afternoon turns into evening. We dine and trade conversations with travelers from all over the globe. Silver Dawn is a tiny world and we its citizens. As dutiful citizens, it’s time for a nightcap at the SALT bar. One called ‘Over the moon’ is delivered with a massive bubble sitting on the rim, once popped curls of smoke are released into the ether. This libation is gentle and I am ready for sleep.
I fall into sleep and Trevor perches in the Observation Lounge as we depart for Hiroshima.
Tomorrow is a day at sea!

The best way to navigate a day in open waters is to indulge!
Everything is punctuated with champagne.
This morning I share an indulgent coffee with a new friend. We sit in two throne-like chairs and fall into story sharing, a few hours race by before I excuse myself for lunch.
Flatbread on the deck overlooking the pool and friendly sheep-like clouds dancing in the blue above bring smiles. Decedent and perfect. A short post-meal stretch out on a sun lounger and it’s off to the spa. Trevor remains with his book and takes the word lounging to new levels.
At OTIVM, a team of the most beautifully manicured humans is conducted by a wonderful gentleman clad in a stunning suit, nails done, beard groomed, and adorned with beautiful accessories. His manners are impeccable and complete trust is instantly given as there is no doubt as to the talent of his team.
I am doted on by a lovely woman with a beautiful sense of humor. Her smile beams! Once she’s done with my nails I can hold my champagne glass with confidence.
Speaking of champagne, it flows like a torrent through the ship and the first week we all feel it.
Wait, how many glasses did I drink?
Tomorrow is a tea-total!
